US salvage OEM parts: when they're smarter than new

Dealer wants $800 for a headlight, salvage yard — $120. Risks, grades and fitment checks.

What salvage OEM is

Original equipment from an insurance-totaled vehicle. Not a knockoff — the same part the factory installed.

Sources are licensed yards and auctions nationwide. US shipping is typically 3–7 days.

Condition grades

Grade A — near-new cosmetics. Grade B — functional with wear. Grade C — enthusiast risk territory.

Body and lights: study photos. Engine and transmission: mileage, compression tests, seller warranty.

When not to save

Airbags, belts, steering — new OEM or a source you trust completely. Savings aren't worth it.

For everything else, catalogs like PAR7S with year/make filters and fitment checks are a solid garage strategy.
